Two reviewers independently screened potential studies and extracted data according to prespecified criteria. 

Methodological quality was assessed by two independent reviewers using modified Cochrane Collaboration Quality Assessment Tool for RCTs with appropriate categories rated good or fair (considered high-quality). Five articles were included in qualitative synthesis and 6 articles in quantitative synthesis. 

The overall methodological quality of all studies was considered high. School-based interventions improved students’ knowledge about health benefits associated with being physically active, increased their self-efficacy for being physically active and promoted their intention to be more physically active after leaving school. 

This study suggests that school-based interventions may effectively support adolescent’s physical activity behavior change through promotion of positive attitudes towards being more physically active at home and at work after leaving school. 

Future research should focus on developing evidence-based strategies that will help educators implement effective health education curriculum into schools so as to achieve better public health outcomes in promoting adolescent’s physical activity behavior change across different settings outside schools such as home and work environment.
